FileMixer / Split a file
Split a CSV or Excel file into smaller files
Cut a big export into pieces that fit an upload limit, or give each region, rep or store its own file.
Your files stay on your device. FileMixer opens them inside this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the page is blocked from sending data anywhere. How we know
1 Add your file
2 Choose how to split
3 Check the parts and download
How to use it
- Add the file you want to split.
- Choose a number of rows per file, a number of files, or a column whose values decide the groups.
- Pick a format. CSV gives a ZIP with one file per part. Excel gives one workbook with a sheet per part, or a ZIP of separate workbooks.
- Download and unzip.

Questions
How do I split a CSV that's too big to open in Excel?
Excel stops at 1,048,576 rows. Split the file into parts of 1,000,000 rows and open each one, or read the guide on splitting large CSV files.
What are the files called?
Parts are numbered after your file name, like “orders part 01.csv”. When you split by a column, each file is named after its value, like “Texas.csv”. Rows with an empty value go in “(blank)”.
Is there a limit on the number of files?
Up to 1,000 files at a time. For more, use a bigger part size.
How big a file can it handle?
Files of a few hundred thousand rows work in a normal laptop browser. The work happens in your computer's memory, so a phone or an older machine slows down sooner. A 50,000-row file takes a second or two.
